Autism means a lack of empathy
Processing differences can mean an autistic person does not react in a way others expect. Rather than reflecting a lack of emotions, this can indicate intense feelings that are hard to process in the moment. Autistic people do have differing levels of empathy, just as non-autistic people do.
Everyone is a bit autistic
Autism is a neurological difference which impacts the way you experience the world. The ‘spectrum’ refers to the wide range of skills that can be impacted. So rather than a scale from low to high autism it can be viewed as an umbrella term, where a person may have high support needs in some areas and none in others. Each individual is unique.
